Luray, Virginia: Shenandoah National Park is seeking applicants for its summer Shenandoah Youth Corps (SYC) program. This program provides youth, ages 16-18, a hands-on and educational experience in the conservation of the park’s natural and cultural heritage. SYC participants work to maintain park trails, roads, buildings and campgrounds while learning about Shenandoah National Park.
The program consists of two, four-week sessions, June 10 to July 5, and July 15 to August 9. During the first session, the participants will spend weekends at their home, but will camp in the park during the week. The second session is a residential session with the participants remaining in the park for the entire four weeks. Participants will also earn a $290 per week allowance for participating in the program. Youth are encouraged to apply for one session.
The Shenandoah Youth Corps is a partnership with Shenandoah National Park, the Great Appalachian Valley Conservation Corps and the Shenandoah National Park Trust. Applications are being accepted through the Great Appalachian Valley Conservation Corps until positions are filled. Students are encouraged to apply early.
