Superintendent Jason Newman selected Chris Beagan as the Site Manager of Longfellow House-Washington’s Headquarters National Historic Site, effective Feb. 3, 2019.
Beagan comes to Longfellow House-Washington’s Headquarters National Historic Site from the NPS Olmsted Center for Landscape Preservation, where he served as a historical landscape architect since 2010. In this role, he supported over forty units of the National Park System and their partners on a wide variety of design and planning projects.
“Chris brings a broad perspective on park operations across the country," said Newman. “His commitment to resource management, interpretation, and employee development was recognized with the prestigious 2018 NPS Northeast Regional Office Employee Appleman Judd Lewis Award. We’re lucky to have him at the Longfellow House."
“It’s an enormous honor to be selected as Site Manager; one that comes with great responsibility to resources, visitors, partners, and employees alike," Beagan says. “I look forward to working with partners and park staff to meet our commitments to resource stewardship and public use."
Prior to the National Park Service, Beagan worked with Pressley Associates Landscape Architects on design and planning projects across the country. He is a licensed landscape architect, a graduate of Cornell University, and a native of Reston, Virginia. He currently lives in Medford, Massachusetts with his husband, classical music composer Oliver Caplan. His interests outside of work include travel, gardening, and the performing arts.
