UPDATE Glen Canyon Bridge Traffic Delays Being Rescheduled

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on May 10, 2019. It is reproduced in full below.

Visitors to Glen Canyon National Recreation are advised that one lane and sidewalk on the Glen Canyon Bridge will be closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic from 5 p.m. to 5 a.m., beginning Monday, May 6 and ending Friday, May 10. The Glen Canyon Bridge crosses the Colorado River at Glen Canyon Dam and is located on Highway 89 between Page, Arizona and the Carl Hayden Visitor Center. The one lane closure is due to routine pipeline inspection and maintenance on the sewer line that crosses the bridge, connecting the Wahweap District of the park to the Page wastewater treatment plant. During the nighttime closure, the traffic lane and sidewalk on the downstream side of the bridge will be closed to access. Access will also be closed to small, fenced staging areas located in a corner of the parking lots for the Carl Hayden Visitor Center and on the east side of the bridge. Vehicles and pedestrians will cross the bridge on the lane and sidewalk closest to the Carl Hayden Visitor Center and the Glen Canyon Dam.

During the nighttime closure, drivers are advised to plan for approximately ten-minute traffic delays. During peak travel times between 5 and 8 p.m. delays may be longer. Traffic control will be provided by the contractor. Drivers and pedestrians must comply with instructions from traffic control flaggers and are urged to practice caution when approaching and crossing the bridge. When the project is completed the Wahweap Fish Cleaning Station will also be reopened. Depending on the results of the inspection and repairs needed, the dates of the closure may be shorter or longer and that change will be announced. The park apologizes for any inconvenience the maintenance project may cause and thanks all users for their attention to safety.
