GETTYSBURG, PA: The National Park Service is excited to host historian Jared Frederick on Saturday, June 1 at 7 pm at the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum & Visitor Center to speak about his new book, Dispatches of D-Day: A People’s History of the Normandy Invasion.
“We are delighted to host Mr. Frederick to begin our week-long commemoration of the 75th anniversary of D-Day this summer," remarked Ahna Wilson, site manager, “Jared’s painstaking research, passion for history, and adept storytelling is clearly evident in his latest book."
The culmination of nearly two years of research and writing, Dispatches of D-Day conveys the deeply personal tales of the countless men and women who took part in the 1944 Normandy Invasion. It includes over a hundred accounts from period newspapers interwoven together to form a moving portrait of both the front lines and home front of what General Dwight D. Eisenhower called, “the great crusade."
Jared Frederick is currently an instructor of history at Penn State Altoona. A native of Altoona, Pennsylvania, Frederick was formerly a seasonal park ranger at Gettysburg National Military Park. He is an accomplished artist and author of several additional history books, including Images of Modern America: Gettysburg National Military Park and Images of Modern America: Altoona, Pennsylvania. The event is free and open to all. Copies of the book will be available to purchase after the presentation and Jared Frederick will be available afterwards to sign them.
