2019 Sweeney Summer Concert Series

Appomattox, Va.: Appomattox Court House National Historical Park and the Appomattox 1865 Foundation are pleased to announce dates and performers for the annual Sweeney Summer Concert Series. Join us in celebrating the musical history of Appomattox County with this monthly series on the McLean House porch!

All concerts begin at 6:00 p.m. Bring a chair or blanket to take in the music and historic setting. Food and drink are welcome (alcohol is not permitted on park grounds). All shows are free and open to the public. Donations received at the event will further the Appomattox 1865 Foundation’s project to restore and create exhibits in the Charles Sweeney Cabin. The Sweeney concert series pays tribute to the local musical Sweeney family, including the renowned popularizer of the banjo, Joel Sweeney.

May 28: Haversacks and Hardtack

Living historians and storytellers provide a lively performance with history.

June 25: NiteKAP

A trio of local Bedford musicians who perform an eclectic mix of American folk music.

July 23: Laura Semilian & Band

Victorian Americana-Eclectic Crossover-Period and Conceptual Music Programming-Original Compositions

August 27: The Bush League (Acoustic)

“RVA Blues", a heady melange of funk, soul, gospel, and rock all wrapped up in the love of the Blues, particularly North Mississippi Hill Country Blues.
