Lassen Volcanic National Park Announces Finding of No Significant Impact to Replace Drakesbad Wasterwater Disposal Field

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on June 24, 2019. It is reproduced in full below.

MINERAL, CA - Lassen Volcanic National Park Superintendent Jim Richardson is pleased to share the news that the decision to replace the Drakesbad Wastewater Disposal Field has been finalized. The Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) approving the selected alternative was signed by Stan Austin, Pacific West Regional Director, on June 7, 2019.

Under the selected alternative, the park will construct a new wastewater disposal field in order to treat the wastewater generated at the Drakesbad facilities. The FONSI includes a description of the selected alternative, synopses of other alternatives considered, the basis for the decision, and an overview of public involvement in the decision-making process.

The completion of the environmental assessment and FONSI is an important achievement for the park in managing a popular destination for day use and overnight visitors. Implementing the project will allow continued use and provide a similar visitor experience of the Drakesbad Historic District for the foreseeable future.

The FONSI can be accessed at the park's planning website, http://parkplanning.nps.gov/DrakesbadSepticSystem.
