Reds Meadow that Includes Access to Devils Postpile Will Open On July 4

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on July 1, 2019. It is reproduced in full below.

The past winter averaging 170% of normal snowpack, presented many operational challenges to opening. Mammoth Resorts, Reds Meadow Pack Station, and the Town of Mammoth Lakes contributed efforts to remove snow and/or to provide portable toilets at key locations in the valley as repairs and preparations for services are in progress.

The mandatory shuttle bus operates daily from 7:30 am to 7 pm and departs from the Mammoth Mountain Ski Area Adventure Center. Parking at the Mammoth Mountain Ski Area is located in lots A B C & D. Ticket purchases and boarding the bus can be done at the Adventure Center. The mandatory shuttle operated by the Eastern Sierra Transit Authority is scheduled to commence operation for the 2019 season on Thursday, July 4. The shuttle will operate daily from 7:30 a.m. until 7:00 p.m., with the last departure from Reds Meadow Resort at 7:45 p.m. The mandatory shuttle is scheduled to operate seven days/week through Wednesday, September 4. Visitors to Reds Meadow, Devils Postpile National Monument and other sights can purchase tickets for the shuttle at the Adventure Center at the Main Lodge. All dogs must be leashed and muzzled to ride the shuttle - only well-behaved dogs are allowed to board at discretion of the driver.

Due to the winter storm impacts and infrastructure repair, no campgrounds are open in the Reds Meadow area at this time. The NPS Devils Postpile campground will remain closed for the season.

To insure the safety and comfort of your visit, remember to bring water bottles you can fill at Bus Stop #6 the monument Visitor Center, sunscreen, insect repellent, a jacket, and snacks. The Visitor Center welcomes the opportunity to become a Junior Ranger with a fun and educational booklet to explore during your visit.
