Missing Hiker Found Alive

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on July 26, 2019. It is reproduced in full below.

At 4:57 pm, park staff and members of Joshua Tree Search and Rescue mobilized along the 49 Palms Oasis trail in response to a report of a lost hiker. He had become separated from his group and had gone off trail.

The subject was located at 7:33 pm and was hiked out by responders. He was released with no injuries.

Dangerously hot temperatures are normal at this time of year. Highs can be well over 100°F (38°C). Avoid activity during the hot daytime hours. Protect yourself from the sun. Bring at least two gallons of water per person, and eat salty snacks. Flash floods are a possibility during monsoon season. Travelers should pay close attention to local weather reports for current updates on storm and flash flood warnings.
