ATLANTA - Today, National Park Service (NPS) Southeast Regional Director Robert Vogel announced the selection of James Hill as superintendent of Guilford Courthouse National Military Park in Greensboro, North Carolina. He begins his work there August 20.

“James joins Guilford Courthouse at a critical time as the National Park Service begins planning efforts to mark the 250th anniversary of our nation’s founding," Vogel said. “James’ intimate knowledge of Revolutionary War history and the Southern Campaign will help position the park as a key player in the commemoration."

"I am excited to be a part of the staff of Guilford Courthouse National Military Park," said Hill. "I look forward to working with our employees, partners, the community and public to preserve, protect and interpret this important site in our nation's history."

Hill has served as superintendent of Agate Fossil Beds National Monument in Nebraska for the past ten years. During this period, he also held temporary assignments as acting superintendent at Wyoming’s Fort Laramie National Historic Site and Scotts Bluff National Monument in Nebraska, and as visiting park manager at Badlands National Park in South Dakota. He spent eight years with the NPS Midwest Regional Office as regional manager of the National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom program. He completed other NPS assignments at Lincoln Home National Historic Site in Illinois, Fort Scott National Historic Site in Kansas and has federal and private sector experience working as an architectural historian and historian. Prior to NPS, Hill worked for cultural resource management firms in South Carolina and Florida.

Hill earned bachelor’s and master's degrees in history with an emphasis in Colonial British American history from the University of South Carolina.
