Chittenden Road, trailhead parking area, and the Chittenden-Mount Washburn trail will close for 5 days in September for improvements

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Sept. 6, 2019. It is reproduced in full below.

* A closure on Mount Washburn will be in effect from September 9-13. Closed areas will include:

** Chittenden Road (from Grand Loop Road)

** Chittenden trailhead parking area

** Chittenden Road-Mount Washburn Trail

* See map for details.

* Crews will work to improve the trail surface.

* Hikers can access Mount Washburn via the Dunraven Pass - Mount Washburn Trail.

* If poor weather conditions prohibits work to be done during this time frame, the closure period will be moved to September 16-20.

* Find updated trail information on the Backcountry Situation Report and at visitor centers.
