Healthy Parks Healthy People Fall Events

Appomattox, VA - Appomattox Court House National Historical Park announces their fall trail walks as part of the Healthy Parks Healthy People partnership. Mark your calendars for these trail events in September, October, and November. On Saturday, September 21st, October 19th, and November 16th join a local doctor for a Walk with a Doc Program in the park. Bring your dog for a walk on the trail at the Lee’s Headquarters pull-off on Saturday, October 12th. Trail walks are part of the Healthy Parks Healthy People partnership between

Appomattox Court House National Historical Park and the Virginia State Parks Central Region.

Walk with a DOC: Join Dr. Teodora Brose of CVFP - Appomattox Family who leads a monthly Walk with a DOC program on park trails. With an aim to make hope and health accessible to all, this doctor led walking group is a safe, fun, and FREE place to get some steps, learn about health, and meet new friends. The next two month’s walk along the Grant’s Approach Trail will be held on Saturday, September 21st, October 19th, and November 16th from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. Please meet the group in the main visitor parking lot to begin the hike. GPS users should use 111 National Park Drive, Appomattox, VA. Please wear appropriate shoes for walking.

Dog Walk: Bring your dog for a casual walk along one of the park trails on Saturday, October 12th at 9:00 a.m. beginning at the Lee’s Headquarters pull-off. (Note the change in time.) Enjoy a light walk with other dog

owners and your favorite canine companion along the 2 mile Tobacco Prizery Nature Trail. Please wear

appropriate shoes for walking in the woods. All dogs must be kept on a leash.

Another dog walk will be offered on Saturday, November 9th starting at 9:00 AM at the Appomattox River pulloff. Join a ranger for a walk along the Ferguson Wildlife Trail. The fall is a beautiful time in the park, so bring your favorite canine friend and enjoy the views along the park trails.

The Healthy Parks Healthy People partnership is composed of seven area parks including Appomattox Court

House National Historical Park, Bear Creek Lake State Park, High Bridge Trail State Park, Holliday Lake State Park, James River State Park, Sailor’s Creek Battlefield Historical State Park, and Twin Lakes State Park. Our mission is to showcase healthy recreational opportunities on public lands and encourage stewardship of these special places.
