Appomattox, VA - Appomattox Court House National Historical Park and the Appomattox 1865 Foundation are excited to announce “Final Bivouac: The Life and Death of Civil War Soldiers" at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 12, 2019. Join us for a roaring campfire on a fall evening to see and feel the uniforms, equipment, weapons, food, leisure time of soldiers, and explore the contrast between leisure time in camp and the horrific realities of combat, death, and burial.
Two Park Rangers will lead the program and provide the opportunity to touch, smell, and discuss the common pieces that every soldier wore or carried, and they will discuss the final combat at Appomattox, along with the creation of the Confederate cemetery located just up the slope from where the surrender took place at the McLean House.
Bring a flashlight and a chair. Enjoy light refreshments provided by the Appomattox 1865 Foundation and the ambiance of a crackling fire.
