Tumacácori celebrates Día de los Muertos on Saturday, November 2 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. with an evening of family fun including an outdoor screening of the holiday favorite, “Coco." The Disney-Pixar movie, which won the Academy Award in 2017 for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song, features many cultural traditions of el Día de los Muertos. Admission to the park during the celebration, and participation in all activities, including the movie, is free of charge.
Before the creation of this animated story, featuring Miguel, Ernesto de la Cruz, and the rest of the Rivera family, the holiday integrated customs of native cultures, mission-era Jesuit and Franciscan priests, Spanish colonists, Mexican settlers, and citizens of the United States arriving in the 19th century. “Tumacácori is proud to celebrate this beloved holiday with friends, neighbors, and visitors from around the world," says Superintendent Bob Love.
The adobe walls of Tumacácori’s historic church will shelter a traditional Día de los Muertos altar to hold ofrendas (offerings) in memory of loved ones. From Friday, October 18 through Sunday, Nov. 3, all visitors will be invited to leave photographs, gifts, tokens, messages, toys, or other traditional items as part of this community installation. Personal items left on the altar can be collected from the park during the week following Día de los Muertos, through November 8.
The evening celebration on Saturday, November 2 begins at 4:00 p.m., when visitors can begin setting up their own outdoor movie seating in front of the mission church. The area closest to the screen will be reserved for ground-level seating, while taller chairs can be placed behind. Ushers will be available to help make sure everyone has a good view of the screen. In addition to blankets, mats, and camp chairs, visitors are invited to bring a picnic dinner. (Pick up after yourselves, and no glass, please.)
Before the movie begins, free tickets will be available for popcorn, provided by the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s office. Visitors will have the opportunity to create a colorful mask or get their face painted. Candles will light the church and cemetery for those wishing to explore the mission grounds. The movie begins on the big screen at 6:00 p.m.

La película de Disney-Pixar, cual ganó dos premios Oscar en 2017 por Mejor Película de Animación y Mejor Canción Original, cuenta con muchas tradiciones culturales. Admisión al parque durante la celebración y participación en todas las actividades, incluyendo la película, es gratis.
Antes de la creación de esta historia animada, presentando a Miguel Ernesto de la Cruz, y el resto de la familia Rivera, esta celebración incorporo costumbres de las culturas indígenas, misioneros Jesuitas y sacerdotes Franciscanos, los colonos Españoles, mexicanos y ciudadanos de los Estado Unidos (EEUU) del siglo 19. Dentro de las paredes de adobe de la iglesia histórica de Tumacácori se instalara un altar tradicional para el Día de los Muertos. En este altar se podrán colocar ofrendas en la memoria de los seres queridos que han fallecido. Del viernes, 18 de octubre hasta el jueves, 3 de noviembre se les invita a todos que dejen una fotografía, un regalo, recuerdo, mensaje, juguete u otro artículo tradicional como parte de esta instalación comunitaria. Los artículos personales dejados en el altar se pueden recoger en el parque después del Día de los Muertos, hasta el 8 de noviembre.
La celebración el sábado, 2 de noviembre comienza a las 4:00 pm, visitantes podrán acomodar sus sillas o cobijas en frente de la iglesia de la misión. La zona más cercana a la pantalla será reservada para sentarse en el suelo, mientras que las sillas altas se pueden colocar detrás de esta área. Empleados estarán disponibles para ayudar a que todos tengan una buena vista de la pantalla. Además de cobijas, tapetitos/cojincitos o sillas de campar, visitantes podrán traer cena o botanas. (Recoja su basura, y se prohíben botellas de vidrio, por favor.)
Antes de que comience la película, se distribuyeran boletos para una bolsita de palomitas de maíz, proporcionadas por la Oficina del Sheriff del Condado de Santa Cruz. Visitantes también podrán crear una máscara de papel o pintarse la cara con un diseño colorido. Velas iluminaran el interior de la iglesia y el cementerio para personas que deseen explorar los terrenos de la misión. La película comienza en la pantalla grande a las 6:00 p.m.
