Queens, N.Y. - Our National Parks, an exhibit of paintings by Jayne Holsinger, will open on Dec. 8. The exhibit opening and reception will be from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. at the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge in Broad Channel. The opening reception is free and open to the public.
This exhibit will be on display for two months.
Holsinger, who will be at the reception, has been painting the national parks as an ongoing theme and series since 2010. Her scenes are based on photographic images based on a trove of vacation photo albums and slides which she inherited from her grandparents in 2008. Her grandfather was an amateur photographer, and documented travel through the continental 49 United States by visiting national parks.
Holsinger is known for her painted series inspired by her Midwest roots including: Women Drivers, American Stills, Mennonites and National Parks. Originally from Indiana, she grew up in a rural community near South Bend and moved to New York City in 1978 to study painting at the New York Studio School. She received her BFA from Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, Fla., and holds an MFA from the Transart Institute in Linz, Austria.
