WASHINGTON - Celebrate the holidays with a nightly lighting of the new National Christmas Tree, a walk around the Pathway of Peace, musical performances and more at President’s Park this season. All holiday activities are free and open to the public.
The National Christmas Tree display is open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday-Thursday, and 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday-Saturday through Jan. 1, 2020. The tree is lit around 4:30 p.m. daily.
Visit President’s Park just south of the White House to see the America Celebrates ornament display featuring 56 trees decorated with one-of-a-kind ornaments. From state flowers to notable landmarks, students in each state, territory and the District of Columbia created ornaments that celebrate their home’s unique features. The National Park Service partnered with the U.S. Department of Education and the National Park Foundation on this year’s project.
For the 25th year, the model National Christmas Tree Railroad, always on time to deliver good cheer, will chug around the National Christmas Tree. Volunteers donate their time each year to assist in the construction and maintenance of the National Christmas Tree Railroad.
Listen or sing along to free holiday performances featuring choral music, bell choirs, dancers and ukulele groups, starting Wednesday, Dec. 11 at 5 p.m., and continuing through Sunday, Dec. 22.
