Great Island Cabin Camp Reservations Open in January 2020

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Dec. 19, 2019. It is reproduced in full below.

Harkers Island, NC - Cape Lookout National Seashore announces that visitors can begin making reservations for Great Island Cabin Camp only on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at 10:00 A.M. (EDT). The popular cabin camp will open for business, accommodating visitors with confirmed reservations on Friday, March 13, 2020, and operate through the last night of availability on Saturday, Nov. 28, 2020.

Long Point Cabin Camp remains closed due to extensive damages from Hurricane Dorian, which passed by the park on September 6th, 2019. At present, there is no timeline as to when, or if, it will be able to open in 2020.

The National Park Service will continue using the Recreation.gov reservations system for this season. Following the public comment period which closed in January, 2019, the park has removed the seasonal rental rates and moved to a flat rental rate for each cabin.

Recreation.gov allows for visitors to make reservations online at www.recreation.gov or by calling (877) 444-6777. The on-line service is available 24-hours a day. The telephone service is available from 10:00 A.M. until Midnight (EDT). Payment with a credit card will be required at the time of the reservation. Recreation.gov accepts the following major credit cards: Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover. Please be aware of the cancellation policies and fees (see the reservation policies section of the website). Recreation.gov allows visitors to create an account at any time, which will allow them to log on and expedite making reservations on January 8, 2020.

Recreation.gov is a national service that was created as part of the Recreation One-Stop E-Gov initiative. The system provides a single point of access in regards to Federal recreational activities and reservations, providing a comprehensive source of information about thousands of Federal recreation opportunities.
