New Appointment to Advisory Commission

Keweenaw National Historical Park (NHP) is pleased to announce two appointments to the Keweenaw

National Historical Park Advisory Commission. Keith Koppernolle is a new appointment representing the

interests of Calumet Township. John Sullivan, representing Franklin and Quincy townships, has been

reappointed to a third term on the Commission.

The Commission, composed of seven volunteer citizens appointed by the Secretary of the Interior,

represents the public and works collaboratively with the National Park Service to manage the resources of

Keweenaw NHP. Appointees are expected to attend quarterly meetings and actively participate in matters

that affect Keweenaw NHP and its partners throughout Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula.

Mr. Koppernolle is a retired insurance executive. Since retiring, Mr. Koppernolle has lived in Calumet

where he has dedicated considerable time and effort to various community causes including the

Miscowaubik Club and Calumet Golf Course. He also serves on the Calumet Township Planning

Commission and Property Tax Review Board.

Mr. Sullivan was born and raised in Calumet and is a retired Civil Engineer. He was a Principal with U.P.

Engineers and Architects for 27 years, and before that, he spent 13 years with state and local

governments. In addition to his role on the Commission, he actively volunteers with the Quincy Mine

Hoist Association, the Quincy Smelter Association, and the U.P. Firefighters Memorial Museum.
