Controlled Burns Planned for the Naval Live Oaks Area

Gulf Breeze, Fla. - The National Park Service will attempt to conduct controlled burns in the Naval Live Oaks Area of the national seashore on Sunday and Monday. Acceptable weather conditions are expected on both days. Crews will target the burn block (NLO-8) on the northeastern corner of the park on Sunday, March 1 and burn blocks (NLO-6 & 7) north of Hwy. 98 on Monday, March 2.

Visitors are advised to avoid areas on the eastern side of the area, north of Hwy. 98.

What: Controlled burn in the Naval Live Oaks Area

Who: National Park Service and cooperators

Where: Naval Live Oaks Area on the eastside of the park north of Hwy. 98.

When: Sunday, March 1 and Monday, March 2

Burn operations are dependent on weather conditions, if conditions are right, burning will likely begin around 10 a.m. and end by around 4 p.m. If conditions change the operation will be cancelled.
