Joshua Tree National Park Flash Floods March 2020

Joshua Tree National Park Flash Floods March 2020

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on March 12, 2020. It is reproduced in full below.

Due to rain and flash flood activity on March 12, 2020, park officials have closed Pinto Basin Road, all dirt roads, and the Joshua Tree Visitor Center at this time. Additional roads and infrastructure in the park are subject to closure due to weather impacts. The Keys Ranch Tour will be canceled tomorrow.

Please use caution while driving in the park during rain events as roads are slick. Avoid driving through running water. Although campgrounds are still open, campers should be advised to make other plans or be prepared for winter weather conditions.

All park visitor centers will be open to the public for business on Friday morning. Park staff are working to reopen park roads. Dirt roads may be closed for multiple days for repairs. When driving on park roads, please be on the lookout for debris, rocks, and standing water.
