Site Manager Chris Beagan selected Emily Levine as the new Supervisory Park Ranger at Longfellow House-Washington’s Headquarters National Historic Site, effective March 29, 2020.
For the past four years, Levine has served as Supervisory Park Ranger at Golden Gate National Recreation Area, including Alcatraz Island (2018-present) and Muir Woods National Monument (2015-18). “Emily brings broad experience working with visitors and partners at one of the most complex and dynamic parks in the nation," said Beagan. “We’re thrilled to have her join the Longfellow House team."
Prior to moving to the west coast in 2015, Levine worked in the greater Boston area at Lowell National Historical Park, the Concord Museum, and the Lawrence History Center. “This area presents so many meaningful opportunities for the public to connect history and the arts with their everyday lives," said Levine. “I’m delighted to return to greater Boston and to join the Longfellow House team in building our interpretive programs and community partnerships."
Levine holds a bachelor’s degree in history from New York University and a master’s degree in museum education from Tufts University, where her capstone project was "Reinventing the Guided Tour." She is a registered interpretive coach and Audience Centered Experiences (ACE) trainer.
A proponent of socially engaged interpretation, Levine has dedicated her career to the belief that good interpretation and education can open minds, foster dialogue, and spark positive civic action. She lives in Boston with her husband Patrick, a nonprofit administrator.
