The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on May 20, 2020. It is reproduced in full below.

Jacksonville, Fl. - Join park rangers from Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve on Saturday, May 23 and Sunday, May 24 for the 2020 National Park Service, Interior Region 2 Virtual Campout. Parks in the South-Atlantic Gulf Region are working together to bring the parks to your backyards and living rooms through this virtual experience. For more information and schedule of activities for the 2020 Virtual Campout follow the parks on Facebook.

A wide range of activities are offered as a part of the virtual campout. Timucuan Preserve will present a backyard snake chat and craft to complete at home. Join us as we kick off the weekend full of programs and activities at 3:00 pm Saturday May 23, 2020 on Facebook @TimucuanPreserveNPS or visit @BiscayneNPS events page to see the full schedule of programs. Discover some of the snakes commonly seen in the park, and what you can do to protect their habitat. Chill the lemonade, cook a smore (or two!) on your grill, and tune into your favorite park. If you’re feeling extra adventurous, virtually visit a new park - it’s just a click away. Whichever park or parks you choose, we encourage you and your family to “camp out" at home and virtually join us this Memorial Day weekend.

Until the day we can safety visit our beloved parks, we welcome and encourage you to help spread the word about the amazing virtual campout experiences for all. This event is designed to keep visitors and employees as safe as possible by mitigating the spread of the Coronavirus.
