The pavement preservation project is being coordinated by the United States Federal Highway Administration and National Park Service and will extend the life of the paved areas throughout the park that will be resurfaced during this project. The contractor is scheduled to start the work in large parking areas around the park’s visitor center area and Woodland Cottages and will then circulate operations the park’s roadways. The contractor may work on multiple roadways at once so travelers could experience temporary delays at several locations on the same day.

Mammoth Cave National Park cave tours, visitor center, and campgrounds are currently closed out of precautions related to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), but the pavement preservation project has been determined to support critical infrastructure in

accordance with U.S. Department of Homeland Security Cybersecurity and Infrastructure

Security Agency (CISA) guidance under the Transportation Systems Sector. The park’s pavement preservation contractor has chosen to continue working on the project but must comply with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidance, and with federal, state, and local guidelines to help protect employees from occupational exposure to COVID-19. The contractor remains responsible for the safety and health of their employees and have developed a safety plan that incorporates COVID-19 response measures that include controls such as social distancing.
