Copper Center, AK. Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve will be issuing permits for Off Road Vehicles (ORV’s) for recreational and subsistence activities starting Tuesday, May 27, 2020.
Due to ongoing public health advisories and staffing delays related to COVID-19, the park offices and visitor contact stations are currently closed to the public, and the permitting process has been adapted for the safety of permit applicants and park staff.
Recreational ORV Permits can be requested by calling the Visitor Center in Copper Center at 907- 822-7250 between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. The permit will be sent to you by email.
For those interested in Subsistence ORV Permits, please call the park at 907-822-7250 to schedule an appointment for the Slana Ranger Station in Slana or the Main Visitor Center in Copper Center. You will be asked to present a driver’s license or state ID to demonstrate your Alaska residency, as well as, a voter registration card, or a recent utility bill listing your physical address, or a mortgage or rental receipt to verify your local physical address. Please bring two of the documents (one for Alaska residency and one for local physical address) described above with you when you come for your appointment. Federal and state guidance strongly recommends the use of a cloth face covering when social distancing (6 feet) cannot be maintained. These measures, as well as frequent hand washing or use of hand sanitizer, are encouraged during your appointment.
