Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument Implements Stage 2 Fire Restrictions

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on June 1, 2020. It is reproduced in full below.

Stage II Fire Restrictions begin on Monday 6/1/2020 in Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument

As a result of the extreme fire danger Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument Stage II Fire Restrictions are being implemented. Restrictions include no campfires nor smoking outdoors in the park. These restrictions will be in effect starting at 8:00 am on Monday, June 1, 2020 and will be enforced until rescinded by Superintendent Marc LeFrançois. Park officials feel that the risk to public safety and structures within park boundaries and neighboring communities from a human-caused fire is great enough that these restrictions are necessary.

The following acts will be prohibited starting at 8:00 am, Monday June 1, 2020 in Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument until further notice:

* Setting, building, maintaining, attending, or using fires of any kind, including wood and charcoal campfires within developed campgrounds or picnic areas, or permanently improved places of habitation. Stoves fueled by petroleum or Liquid Propane Gas (LPG) fuels are allowed.

* Smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle or building.

* Possessing or using any kind of fireworks or other pyrotechnic devices, is prohibited at all times on all federal public lands.

Violation of the above, prohibited acts is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 and/or imprisonment for not more than six months, or both.
