BOULDER CITY, Nevada - National Park Service rangers are searching for an adult female who went missing near Special Events Beach June 24.
At 9:19 p.m., the park received a call, reporting that six people were blown into the lake on an oversized inflatable flamingo. One individual jumped off to swim back to shore. As he began to struggle, others jumped into the water to help him.
He made it to shore and was transported by Boulder City Fire to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. It was reported that one of the females who jumped in the water didn’t make it to shore and was missing.
Rangers responded to search the area by vessel and the shoreline with the assistance of the Boulder City Police Department. Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department searched the area by helicopter with a spotlight. After no sign of the female, the search was suspended at 1 a.m. due to low visibility.
The search resumed the morning of June 25 and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Dive Team is providing support. The incident is under investigation by the National Park Service.
There are fatalities every year at the park associated with inflatable pool toys and rafts. Inflatables become uncontrollable during high winds. Wind gusts were at least 29 miles per hour at the time of the incident.
Winds are forecast to be 20-30 miles per hour Saturday. The park recommends people leave their pool toys at home and only use Coast Guard-approved devices and equipment. As a reminder, visitors aboard all vessels, including paddleboards, canoes, kayaks and rafts, are required to have a properly fitted life jacket on board for all occupants.
