Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve to Close as Hurricane Eta Approaches

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Nov. 11, 2020. It is reproduced in full below.

Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve, including Fort Caroline National Memorial, Kingsley Plantation, Cedar Point, Theodore Roosevelt Area and Spanish Pond will be closed as of 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 11th with the approach of Hurricane Eta.

The projected forecast and potential for tornadoes, high winds, flooding, extreme high tides and downed trees, will likely create hazardous conditions. “Potential weather impacts associated with Hurricane Eta are being taken seriously, for the safety of our visitors and employees. Timucuan Preserve will be closed until conditions improve" stated Superintendent Chris Hughes.

The preserve will remain closed until assessments of damage and risks to the public are completed. Current status will be posted as an alert on the park’s website.
