The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on March 5, 2021. It is reproduced in full below.

On Saturday, April 17, Petersburg National Battlefield will participate in the American Battlefield Trust’s annual Park Day. People interested in volunteering to help maintain the site where the longest event of the Civil War occurred are asked to preregister by contacting Volunteer Coordinator Meredith Courteau at (804) 732-3571 ext. 301 or by e-mail at Meredith_Courteau@partner.nps.gov. The last day to register is April 10th. Registered volunteers will be contacted before the event date with their assigned project and check-in location. Volunteers should arrive to their location at 8:30 am and projects will begin shortly after, ending at about 12:00 pm. Volunteers are encouraged to bring work gloves, a full water bottle, and wear weather appropriate dress. Registered volunteers will be given a reusable water bottle (while supplies last) at their check-in. In the event of poor weather, a rain date has been scheduled for April 24.

About Park Day

Civil War Trust created Park Day in 1996 and each year thousands of people volunteer in what the organization calls, “a hands-on preservation event to help Civil War battlefields and historic sites take on maintenance projects large and small". Approximately 100 sites from coast to coast have signed up to participate this year. For more information about “Park Day" visit the American Battlefield Trust's website.
