Rinconada Canyon Closed

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on March 19, 2021. It is reproduced in full below.

Albuquerque, NM- Petroglyph National Monument was notified by PNM that crews will be conducting maintenance on the transmission lines that run through Rinconada Canyon. Due to potential hazards to hikers and to ensure visitor safety, park management must close public access to Rinconada Canyon beginning March 22 through March 24, 2021. We regret the inconvenience to those members of the community who walk Rinconada Canyon daily but suggest Boca Negra Canyon, Piedras Marcadas Canyon, or the Volcanoes Day Use Area as viable alternatives.

PNM and the American Power Company assured park management that the project will be completed over the three-day period. Rinconada Canyon will re-open to the public on Thursday, March 25, 2021.

For public safety, please follow this temporary closure announcement.
