GULF BREEZE, Fla. - Gulf Islands National Seashore will be reopening Fort Pickens Road today, April 2, 2021 at noon. Registered campers may enter and exit the area prior to noon. Recent weather and associated sustained high winds hindered the park’s ability to clear sand from this roadway over the last 48 hours.
J. Earle Bowden Way, Highway 399, is open to passenger vehicles, and remains temporarily closed to oversized vehicles. Passenger vehicles traveling this road should also exercise caution due to sand covering sections of roadway.
The Perdido Key area remains temporarily closed to oversized vehicles to include RVs and vehicles towing trailers, due to reduced parking area resulting from increased sand in the primary parking lot. Walkers and bicycles should use caution as sand is covering the road beyond the main parking lot in areas.
