INDIANA DUNES NATIONAL PARK: Under the authority of 36 CFR 1.5(a), the Superintendent will temporarily close a portion of the Marquette Trail at Indiana Dunes National Park so a work project can be completed safely.
On April 19 - 23, the portion of the Marquette Trail between County Line Road and Montgomery Street will be closed so a large truck and wood chipping equipment can safely operate. The size of the equipment and narrowness of the trail does not allow for people to safely pass by the work area.
During the work, the park’s resource management staff will remove brush piles along the trail. Woody, non-native invasive plants have been cut as part of a Great Lakes Restoration Initiative project to improve critical habitat for pollinators and other wildlife. Invasive species that are being removed include honeysuckle, bittersweet, tree of heaven, and autumn olive.
