Junior Ranger Day and Bark Ranger Day

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on April 20, 2021. It is reproduced in full below.

The week of April 17 through April 25, 2021, is National Park Week. Every April, during the presidentially proclaimed National Park Week, we join with the National Park Foundation, the official charity of America's national parks, to celebrate America's treasures. National Park Week is a time to explore amazing places, discover stories of history and culture, and to “find your park."

Saturday, April 24, 2021, is National Junior Ranger Day in America’s national parks. Running from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, both the Shiloh and Corinth Battlefields will have Junior Ranger books to complete for kids to earn a badge, along with special arts and crafts activities, such as coloring pages and making a ranger hat. Kids will be able to earn a special patch for participation in this junior ranger event.

On Sunday, April 25, Shiloh National Military Park will celebrate BARK Ranger Day. On this day, America’s national parks will be going to the dogs! Our furriest family members can become part of the B.A.R.K. Ranger pack by modeling these best practices when visiting parks:

Bag your pet’s waste

Always leash your pet

Respect wildlife

Know where you can go

BARK Ranger Day is happening on April 25, 2021, as part of the annual National Park Week celebration. Bring your furry family members to Shiloh for a ranger-led hike around the Shiloh Indian Mounds trail. To participate in the BARK ranger hike, guests are invited to register in advance by called the park’s visitor center at 731-689-5696. Space is limited and dogs must be friendly and get along with other dogs. Registered hikers are asked to meet at the Indian Mounds shelter at 1:30 pm for the one-hour hike. Hikers should wear clothing appropriate for the weather, bring “doggie bags," and bring enough water for both human and their canine participants. For more information on this and other park events, contact Shiloh National Military Park at 731-689-5696.
