Public Comment Solicited for Prisoners Harbor Campground

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on May 26, 2021. It is reproduced in full below.

The National Park Service (NPS) is seeking public comment on the proposal to construct a new campground at Prisoners Harbor on Santa Cruz Island.

As directed by the park’s 2015 General Management Plan, the proposed campground includes rustic campsites with a maximum capacity of 24 overnight visitors. The project is expected to begin late summer of this year.

The updated plan incorporates suggestions from the first public comment period which took place in June and July of 2020. Modifications include an accessible restroom and the addition of an accessible campsite as part of our commitment to making facilities, services, and programs accessible for all. Further information about the planning and compliance process, proposed action, and instructions to submit public comment is available at: https://parkplanning.nps.gov/prisonersharborcampground

The public is invited to provide comments and feedback related to this proposed project. The public comment period is open from May 26 through June 25, 2021. Comments may be submitted online or mailed to the following address:
