Cedar Breaks to Host Annual BioBlast June 19 & 20

Cedar City, Utah - The National Park Service will host the annual Cedar Breaks BioBlast on Saturday and Sunday, June 19 & 20 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wildlife programs will be available on the half hour throughout the day and will cover different species living in the park. In addition to special programming there will be additional activities for visitors of all ages to learn about animals at Cedar Breaks.

Ranger programs will be located at the North View Overlook on both days and will feature stories about elk, marmots, birds, and pollinators. These programs will be in addition to the park’s hourly geology programs presented on the hour at North View Overlook as well. A complete listing of programs is available on the park’s website at www.nps.gov/cebr/planyourvisit/calendar.htm.

In addition to ranger led programs at North View Overlook, there will be a wildlife activity table at the overlook with furs, animal tracks, and more from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. On Sunday, the Southern Utah Museum of Art will host a children’s art activity focused on park birds at the Chessmen Ridge Overlook on Sunday, June 20, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Pop-up wildlife viewing opportunities will be available throughout the park on both days.

Construction of the Cedar Breaks Visitor Contact Station will begin on June 14 and will change visitor operations this season. To help visitors plan for visiting the park this summer, a new 2021 Visitor Guide webpage is available online at www.nps.gov/cebr/planyourvisit/2021.htm. The webpage includes information about ranger programs, information booths, entrance pass sales, campground operations, and most importantly restrooms. The page is updated regularly as the season progresses to provide visitors with the most up to date information available.
