Aviation Mishap in Katmai NP&P

King Salmon, AK - On the morning of Monday, July 19, park rangers received a report that a plane made a forced landing on a hillside in the lower American Creek area of Katmai National Park and Preserve. The pilot and passenger were safely evacuated by an NPS float plane that was operating in the area.

The de Havilland DHC-2 Beaver was damaged but the two individuals onboard reported no injuries. Plans are being made to remove the plane from the park.

The names of the pilot and passenger have not been released.
