Trails along Indian River Temporarily Closed for Bear Activity

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on July 20, 2021. It is reproduced in full below.

Trails along the Indian River corridor are closed through at least July 21, 2021 for bear activity. Look for alerts or closures at each trailhead. Please respect these limited closures when you see a trail is posted as “Closed."

The Russian Memorial Loop trail in the park’s east unit is closed. The Riverview Trail is also closed between Sawmill Creek Road (to the north) and the pedestrian bridge over Indian River (to the south). The Totem Trail loop remains open, but bear encounters are possible.

Park management will reevaluate bear activity each day. Check the Current Conditions page to find out whether the closure has been extended.
