Environmental Assessment for the Strawberry Creek Restoration Project Available for Public Comment

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Aug. 10, 2021. It is reproduced in full below.

BAKER, NEVADA - The National Park Service (NPS) is seeking public comment on the Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Strawberry Creek Restoration Project in Great Basin National Park. The public comment period for the EA will be from August 9, 2021 to September 6, 2021. Comments will be accepted until midnight, September 6, 2021.

The EA was developed by an interdisciplinary team that evaluated relevant scientific, technical, cultural, and natural resource information. Two alternatives (Alternative 1, the Proposed Action and Alternative 2, the No Action) were developed with input from the interdisciplinary team and substantive comments collected during the public scoping period in April 2021. Management actions outlined in the EA include restoration treatments to support the post-fire recovery of fish habitat, promote the establishment and persistence of native vegetation, limit the impacts of invasive plants, and utilize process-based approaches to restore stream function and condition. Restoration treatments, monitoring, and follow-up treatments are expected to occur over the next ten years.

The public can review and comment on the EA on the National Park Service Planning, Environment, and Public Comment (PEPC) website https://parkplanning.nps.gov/strawberryrestoration

To be considered, all comments must be submitted through the PEPC website or mailed to:
