Cedar Breaks to Host Annual History Festival This Weekend

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Aug. 17, 2021. It is reproduced in full below.

Cedar City, Utah - The National Park Service will host the annual Cedar Breaks History Festival on Saturday and Sunday, August 21 & 22 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Programs focused on the human history of the Breaks will be available on the half hour daily at the historic Caretaker’s Cabin near the temporary Information Center. There will also be an activity table at the cabin for visitors to learn about archeology and storytelling and a pop-up timeline exhibit will be installed along the Sunset Trail starting at the Picnic Area.

The Caretaker’s Cabin is one of the oldest structures still standing at Cedar Breaks. It was built along with the log cabin at Point Supreme by the Civilian Conservation Corps between 1936-1937. The log cabin at Point Supreme is undergoing extensive restoration work in preparation of a new self-guiding exhibit focused on the human history of the park to be installed. The exhibit is projected to open in 2023 along with the new visitor contact station. All facilities at Point Supreme are currently closed to all access due to construction.

Regular geology programs will continue at the North View Overlook throughout the festival starting at 9:15 a.m. and continuing hourly. A complete listing of programs is available on the park’s website at www.nps.gov/cebr/planyourvisit/calendar.htm. Visitors are highly encouraged to visit the 2021 Visitor Guide webpage at www.nps.gov/cebr/planyourvisit/2021.htm before traveling to the park. The webpage includes information about ranger programs, information booths, entrance pass sales, campground operations, and most importantly restrooms. The page is updated regularly as the season progresses to provide visitors with the most up to date information available.
