Elk Creek Boat Ramp Reopening Labor Day Weekend at Blue Mesa

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Sept. 1, 2021. It is reproduced in full below.

GUNNISON, Colo. --- The National Park Service will reopen the Elk Creek boat ramp at 6:30 am on Friday, Sept. 3, 2021. Once open, the ramp is expected to remain available through the end of September. It is currently closed while the docks are repositioned due to low water levels on Blue Mesa Reservoir. Boats must stay at least ten feet from the Elk Creek docks and buoys to remain clear of cables and anchor lines.

Due to lowering water levels, the Lake Fork ramp will close at 7 pm on Thursday, Sept. 2, 2021, but the Lake Fork marina and boat slips will remain open and accessible. The Iola ramp is open through the Labor Day weekend but will close soon after. Access is currently restricted to boats 20 feet long or less at Iola and Lake Fork. Boat ramp hours are from 6:30 am to 7 pm daily.

The National Park Service is routinely testing Blue Mesa for the presence of cyanotoxins. Toxic algae resemble thick pea soup or spilled paint. Avoid contact with it. If exposed, shower immediately. Rinse fish with clean water. Help us with monitoring efforts by downloading the Bloomwatch app.
