Fatal vehicle collision 2-10-2022

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Feb. 14. It is reproduced in full below.

On Feb. 10, 2022, at approximately 11:00 am, a white 2020 Mazda Miata MX-5 was traveling westbound on CA-190 just east of Towne Pass. As the vehicle traveled westbound at an undetermined speed, it traversed a right hand curve in the roadway. The driver allowed the car to leave the roadway where it collided into a guidepost. The vehicle then crossed the roadway, leaving the paved portion. The vehicle then overturned while it traveled down embankment. The driver of the vehicle, a 83-year-old man from Pahrump, Nevada, was transported by air ambulance however, he did not survive the collision, The passenger, a 79-year-old woman also from Pahrump, sustained major injuries and was also transported to a hospital.
