Heritage Hike: Staple Bend Tunnel, Saturday, March 19

Join us on Saturday, March 19 at 2:00 pm for an anniversary hike to the Staple Bend Tunnel to commemorate the opening of the Allegheny Portage Railroad 188 years ago on March 18, 1834. On this 5-mile round trip hike participants will learn about the inclines and levels of the Allegheny Portage Railroad, including the construction of the Staple Bend Tunnel, the first railroad tunnel in America. The hike will take place rain or shine. Due to the mid-March event date, please prepare for the possibility of different weather conditions including snow, ice, mud, and wet ground. Please wear sturdy walking shoes and bring a snack, if you like. Reservations are required as space is limited. Please call 814-886-6150 to sign up and for the meeting location.
