Fort Union National Monument closed due to fire activity in the area

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on April 24. It is reproduced in full below.

Watrous, NM - Fort Union National Monument will be closed Sunday April 24 and Monday April 25, due to fire activity in the area and heavy smoke from those fires.

Road closures surrounding the park and the uncertainty of evacuations in surrounding areas will make access to the park difficult for park staff as well as the public; therefore, park management has made the decision to not open the park to the public for the next two days. On Monday conditions will be re-assessed, as decisions are made moving forward based on current conditions.

For information on the park, visit www.nps.gov/foun, or follow us on Facebook.
