BULLFROG, Utah - Glen Canyon National Recreation Area has completed an extension of the Bullfrog North Boat Ramp in North Lake Powell. However, the Bullfrog North Ramp will not be available for launching motorized vessels until water levels at Lake Powell reach 3525 feet in elevation. (As of April 28, the lake’s elevation is 3522.64.) Once the lake reaches 3525, the left side of the ramp will be available for launch and retrieval of small, motorized vessels. At lake elevation 3527, the right side of the ramp will become available for small, motorized vessels. It is recommended that large vessels launch and retrieve from the left side of the ramp only once lake levels reach 3529 or higher due to the topography at the end of the concrete ramp. There is no turnaround area for houseboats so they will need to be backed down the length of the ramp. All launch and retrieval of vessels is at your own risk. Additional announcements will be made when the Bullfrog North Ramp becomes operable. Until such time, please respect the closure barriers on the ramp.
According to Glen Canyon National Recreation Area Superintendent William Shott, “Everyone who supports recreation on Lake Powell is excitedly waiting for spring runoff to enable use of this ramp. We are grateful for the many people who have an interest in recreation on Lake Powell and thank everyone for your understanding and patience. We wish everyone a safe and enjoyable visit to North Lake Powell in 2022."
Visitors should expect congestion at the ramp and are asked to exercise caution in every visitor use area. Boaters are asked to please prepare all boats in the parking lot before accessing the Bullfrog North ramp. When the ramp is available for use, National Park Service staff will be on-site to provide guidance about parking and use of the ramp, and the useable area will be marked.
Lake Powell water level fluctuations are determined by a wide range of factors, and it is not possible to predict daily elevations with absolute certainty. It is imperative that boaters check the park’s website about the status of preferred launch destinations before heading to the lake. Real-time information is available 24/7 about Lake Powell’s fluctuating water levels, marina operations, and water-based visitor services at this link: https://www.nps.gov/glca/learn/changing-lake-levels.htm.
