Joe Branch Road in Big South Fork NRRA has Reopened

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on May 16. It is reproduced in full below.

Road repairs have been completed, and Joe Branch Road, located within Big South Fork NRRA has reopened to vehicular travel.

The park experienced significant rainfall in February 2020, and again in March of 2021, causing a large culvert on Joe Branch Road to fail and washed the road away, which led to hazardous conditions making travel unsafe.

Visitors are asked to be aware of hazards, including potential wet and icy road conditions, downed trees, and debris on roadways, and report road and trail conditions to park staff at 423-569-7302, or BISO_Trail_Condition_Report@nps.gov.
