POINT REYES STATION, California - POINT REYES STATION, California - On Sept. 13, 2022, Point Reyes National Seashore will mark 60 years since its designation as a national seashore. On this date in 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed into law legislation “to protect a portion of the diminishing seashore of the United States that remains undeveloped." The park is celebrating this special occasion with a series of upcoming events that are free and open to the public.
60 is the New 40!
40th Annual Sand Sculpture Contest
Date: Saturday, August 27
Time: Registration begins at 9 am, judging is at noon, and awards are at 3 pm.
Location: Drakes Beach
All are welcome to this free, family-friendly community event! Prizes will be awarded in family, adult, and kids age groups. This is the first time this event is back in person since 2019!
Junior Ranger Day
Date: Sunday, September 11
Time: 11 am-2 pm
Location: Bear Valley Picnic Area
Bring your young and your young at heart! Watch demonstrations, enjoy hands on activities, and explore the park to earn your Junior Ranger badge. Activities are geared towards families and children 12 and under, but all are welcome!
60th Anniversary-themed Point Reyes Bird Count

Join park rangers online for a fun filled day as they attempt to count 60 different bird species!
Drakes Beach Clean Up
California Coastal Cleanup Day

Time: 10 am-1 pm
Location: Drakes Beach
Come help us keep the beaches at Point Reyes National Seashore clean and free of debris. Bring your enthusiasm, buckets, snacks, water and wear clothes that can get dirty. We'll provide the trash picker-uppers.
Iceplant Pull
National Public Lands Day
Date: Saturday, September 24
Time: 10 am
Location: North Beach
Help park rangers remove this lovely but invasive plant at the North Beach parking lot. No experience necessary. Bring your own gloves; trash bags and instructions on how to pull will be provided.
Sea Shanty Sing-Along
Date: Saturday, September 24
Time: 5 pm
Location: Kenneth C. Patrick Visitor Center at Drakes Beach
