August 13: Hydrogen Compatibility of Materials

The Energy Department will present a live webinar titled "Hydrogen Compatibility of Materials" on Tuesday, Aug. 13, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. The webinar will describe hydrogen embrittlement and its impact on hydrogen distribution and storage. In particular, the webinar will examine the challenges and existing guidance for selecting structural materials for hydrogen service. During the webinar, speakers from the Energy Department's Sandia National Laboratory will review the "Technical Reference for Hydrogen Compatibility of Materials, " an important tool for identifying promising materials for hydrogen service and summarizing hydrogen compatibility data, as well as discovering gaps in available materials data and standards for qualifying materials for hydrogen service.

This new partnership brings together automakers, government agencies, gas suppliers, and the hydrogen and fuel cell industries to coordinate research and identify cost-effective solutions to deploy infrastructure that can deliver affordable, clean hydrogen fuel in the United States.

July 9: Webinar on a New Energy Zones Mapping Tool for the Eastern Interconnection

The Energy Department presented a live webcast titled "New Energy Zones Mapping Tool for the Eastern Interconnection" on Tuesday, July 9. This webcast demonstrates the EISPC Energy Zones Mapping Tool, a web-based decision support system used to locate areas with high suitability for clean power generation in the U.S. portion of the Eastern Interconnection, which has been developed for the Eastern Interconnection States Planning Council (EISPC) by Argonne National Laboratory in collaboration with Oak Ridge National Laboratory and National Renewable Energy Laboratory. The tool includes nine clean (low- or no-carbon) energy resource categories and 29 types of clean energy technologies.
