December 16: Live Webinar on International Hydrogen Infrastructure Challenges-NOW, DOE, and NEDO

The Energy Department will present a live webinar titled “International Hydrogen Infrastructure Challenges-NOW, DOE, and NEDO" on Monday, Dec. 16, from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Eastern Standard Time. This webinar will summarize the international information exchange that took place in June between the Department of Energy (DOE), Germany’s National Organisation of Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology (NOW), and Japan’s New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO). Presenters will provide an overview of hydrogen refueling infrastructure challenges and discuss potential solutions to support the successful global commercialization of hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles. Key focus areas of the webinar include the station requirements necessary to meet the latest SAE J2601 protocol and the development of alternative fueling protocols, maintaining and measuring purity to the SAE J2619 fuel quality standard, and the availability and accuracy of meters for hydrogen dispensing for 700 bar onboard fueling. Also included is an overview of the current status of key hardware for 700 bar refueling.

During the webinar, Greg Brinkman, a member of the Energy Forecasting and Modeling Group in the Strategic Energy Analysis Center at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, will present the results of the. This study, which follows the, focuses on potential emissions and wear-and-tear costs of cycling fossil-fueled generators in scenarios with wind and solar generation integration of up to 33%.

The Energy Department will present a live webinar titled “Introduction to Pre-engineered Metal Building Envelope Commissioning" on Wednesday, Dec. 18, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The metal building industry produces more than 50% of all new low-rise nonresidential construction in the United States. These buildings serve many different commercial, industrial, institutional, and educational purposes. The webinar will offer participants: an introduction to pre-engineered metal building envelope commissioning, stakeholders, and participants; current guidelines and standards related to commissioning; and envelope-specific commissioning tests. The information in this webinar will also be widely applicable to other low-rise commercial building uses.

January 7: Live Webinar Highlighting SunShot Incubator Program Awardees

The Energy Department will present a live webinar titled "SunShot Incubator Virtual Showcase" on Tuesday, January 7, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The SunShot Incubator program provides early-stage assistance to help startup companies cross technological barriers to commercialization while encouraging private sector investment. Since 2007, $104 million in government funds has leveraged more than $1.8 billion in venture capital and private equity investment, demonstrating a ratio of nearly $18 in subsequent private sector support for every $1 of federal support.
This webinar will provide an opportunity to learn about the SunShot Incubator projects in quick one-minute presentations by each company. In addition to learning about the projects, attendees will be able to gain greater insight into the Incubator awardees' products and future development needs.

November 19: Micro-Structural Mitigation Strategies for PEM Fuel Cells

The Energy Department presented a live webinar titled “Micro-Structural Mitigation Strategies for PEM Fuel Cells" on Tuesday, November 19. During the webinar, Ballard Power Systems highlights an open-source fuel cell simulation package funded by EERE that allows users to simulate both the performance and durability of a PEM fuel cell membrane electrode assembly. The details of the model are also discussed with a focus on the theory, background, validation, and results of the simulation package.
