DOE Selects Two Contractors for Multiple-Award Waste Disposal Contract

The following press release was published by the U.S. Dept. of Energy, Office of Environmental Management on April 12, 2018. It is reproduced in full below.

Cincinnati - The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) awarded two indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (ID/IQ) multiple-award contracts for the disposal of low-level radioactive waste (LLW) and mixed-low level radioactive waste (MLLW) today to EnergySolutions, LLC of Clive, Utah and Waste Control Specialists LLC of Andrews, Texas.

The goal of these contracts is to establish a vehicle that allows DOE sites to place timely, competitive, and cost-effective task orders for the permanent disposal of:

• Class A, B, and C LLW and MLLW

• 11e(2) byproduct material

• Technology enhanced naturally occurring radioactive material (TENORM)

• Certain sealed sources.

Task orders placed under this ID/IQ contract may be for the disposal of multiple waste types. EnergySolutions, LLC and Waste Control Specialists LLC will fairly compete for future ID/IQ task orders which will have fixed price unit rates with economic price adjustments for appropriate taxes and fees.

The waste to be disposed under these ID/IQ contracts originates from all DOE facilities or is derived from DOE clean-up and remediation activities.

The mission of the DOE Environmental Management program is the safe cleanup of the environmental legacy resulting from five decades of nuclear weapons development and Government-sponsored nuclear energy research.
