Deputy Secretary of Commerce Don Graves thanked Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp and Sens. Jon Ossof and Raphael Warnock for supporting Hyundai Motors.
Graves and the elected officials from Georgia took part in the Hyundai manufacturing plant groundbreaking ceremony Oct. 25, according to a news release.
“On behalf of the entire Biden administration, I am pleased to congratulate Hyundai Motors on this historic investment. Not only will it create thousands of good jobs here in Georgia, but it’s also going to strengthen the U.S.-South Korean partnership in automotive, smart technology and electric batteries,” Graves said in the release. “It’s a reflection of President Biden’s direct engagement with our friends in South Korea, which is leading to new investments just like this.”
He said the electric vehicle expansion by Hyundai lines up with the Biden administration’s work on climate change and move to a clean, domestic source of energy. The plant will help keep the U.S. on the path to net-zero emissions by 2050, the release reported. A key part in reaching that goal is Biden’s target to make EVs half of new car sales by 2030.
The groundbreaking reflects the strong trading relationship the U.S. has with South Korea, Graves said in the release. South Korea is the source of more than $71 billion in foreign direct investment. Close economic ties between the nations support strong job creation, aid in combatting the global climate crisis and contributing to mutual prosperity.
