Groundbreaking ceremony kicks off construction project to modernize the Truckee Canal

When: 12:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 4

Where: Derby Diversion Dam, Sparks, Nevada.

Why: The event will break ground for the $35 million project to conduct extraordinary maintenance on the Truckee Canal in western Nevada. Reclamation’s goal is to restore safe long-term operation of the Canal. The Canal, part of the Newlands Project and one of the first Reclamation projects in the country, originates at the Derby Diversion Dam on the Truckee River, approximately 20 miles east of Reno, Nevada, and ends at Lahontan Reservoir.
