Coast Guard updates reserve medical readiness services policy

The Coast Guard offers multiple medical services for members of the Reserve Component, including members of the Individual Ready Reserve (IRR). However, there is a revised policy where these members may receive services listed below at Coast Guard clinics, including ashore sickbays with adequate capacity. Reservists must be in a qualifying duty status (ADT, IDT, ADOS, or RMP) to receive these services. 

• Periodic health assessments (PHAs) 
• Annual dental readiness exams 
• Immunizations required for individual medical readiness (IMR) 
• Blood work required for IMR 
• Assessment for medical equipment required for IMR, such as gas mask inserts, prescription glasses, and personal protective equipment (PPE) fit testing 
• Occupational medical surveillance and evaluation program exams, lab work, and tests 
• Deployment-related health assessments 
• Separation/retirement physicals 
• Any other required exams including (but not limited to) aviation, dive, commissioning, and retention physicals 

Required exams for civilian members of the Coast Guard will also be available under the revised policy standards.  The Reserve Health Readiness Program (RHRP) is an option for eligible reservists and members on the Tricare Prime Remote plan to receive the above list of services. Active duty members and reservists outside of a Coast Guard or Department of Defense catchment area should contact their independent duty health services technician or clinic to request RHRP services.  For more information, see ALCOAST 425/22.
